Fighting Style! Empty
PostSubject: Fighting Style!   Fighting Style! EmptyThu Aug 23, 2012 2:37 pm

Many games on BYOND seem to put range at an advantage over melee so that got me thinking. I came up with a plan that I wasn't so sure could work. So I decided to bring it to you and see what you thought of it.
My plan was creating different type of fighting styles for melee!
You are probably wondering what I mean by fighting style so I'll give you some examples,

Protector: A fighter with a high block ratio

Specialist: A fighter who deals true damage(Some of the hits will be regular but the others will deal true damage)

Swift Striker: A fighter who attacks faster than most

Tank: A fighter with a chance of counter or deflect(If hit by projectile)

Cannon: A fighter who pushes back whoever they hit when passive is activated

And others that I'm too lazy to post, tell me if you think this is a good idea or whether it is but some of the styles need to be removed or changed. You can also suggest your own fighting style!

Protector should be Tank, aswell as Tank should be Protector. It would fit the names better, as a Tank is supposed to 'Tank' the damage, thus blocking, while a Protector is supposed to 'protect themself' from damage, thus countering/deflecting.

Specialist shouldn't deal True Damage, that can be highly abused. (True damage means that the damage is an exact number, regardless of the enemies defense and armor.)

Swift Striker should be removed, as it can not only be highly overpowered but also highly underpowered. It's impossible to find a balanced speed, unless you've got a 'luck' system running.

Cannon sounds good, though their knockback should do half the normal damage, but twice the damage if the ones you push, hits a densed object.

-Double Up-
The user's passive allows them to randomly strike twice.

-Sinister strike-
The user's passive allows them to hit more precisely, granting them an extra chance of doing critical hits.

-Swift wind-
The user can move 20% faster and hit 10% faster.

-Dead's end-
The user got a slightly increase in block ratio, aswell as a boost in Health and regeneration.

Hmm yes I can see what you mean with the tank and protector, but true damage ignores defense which is why I said the chance of them landing true damage will be based on a percentage if I didnt then than that is what I was implying. As far as swift striker goes the boost in attack speed will be balanced because not only does no one stand still in spot during a fight the damage for swift striker will be slightly weaker then regular hits.

I like it. Something similiar was on Ikou Era Calssic. Were there had there own fighting styles. Like the players could make there own fighting styles. It was awsome, do it.
